Chew, chew, and chew

It has been a few weeks since we posted something about our beloved pooch.  The little guy has experienced running and swimming in the river, apples right off the tree, his first visit to the vet for a check up and shots, Home Depot, the true comfort of a Minnie Mouse camping chair,  and Kindergarteners playing soccer (Go big, blue sharks!) among many other firsts.

He has now entered a new stage of puppy life I like to call "Catch me if you can, mama".  I know he is laughing a little (or maybe a lot) inside as I am running after him trying to get the shoe, magazine, paper, fuzz, or slug out of his mouth using my best love and logic techniques to get this dog/furry child to stop and listen to me.  The "uh, oh" in a high pitch voice seems to do the trick I have learned...for now.  On a great recommendation from a lady at Home Depot, we made "pup pops" as we are lovingingly calling them to help him as his teeth are a constant source of bothersomeness (not sure if that is word but it sounds great!).  We mixed water with chicken broth and then sprinkled crushed dog bones into the liquid.  We then put the pops in the freezer and Walaaah!  We have not tried them out on Dawber yet but we will keep you posted.

PUP POPS
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup water
1/2 cup dog biscuits of your choice, crushed

Using a muffin tin, spread plastic wrap across and into the cups and pour the liquid mixture into the cups, about 2/3 full.  Sprinkle the crushed dog biscuits into the liquid.  Put in freezer for a couple hours.

2 Weeks and 5 lbs later

Well... two weeks later, and he now weighs 15.7 lbs. We have him on a sandals and purse supplement to give him the necessary vitamins that his puppy chow just can't provide.  He is getting easier at night - although it may be that we are all  getting used to less sleep. My oldest daughter, surprisingly, is having the hardest time getting used to training and living with a dog, while my youngest is going for her "puppy Au pair" certificate.

Nicknames for Dawber Doodle so far include:
Mr. D
Dawbs
Double D
Dawbie
Dawb-a -licious
D
and...
The Doodles

Gross things ingested to date:
- Snails & slugs
- Frogs
- Bark
- Newt
- Coffe Beans (from the kitchen floor)

He is sniffing around my Bible, so I assume we will get the Gospel into him one way or another.

Day 2 of Dawber and Mama

I am tired.  We are tired.  This is like having a mobile newborn.  He is so sweet but at 3 am when I am waiting for him to go potty so I can go back to sleep, he isn't so cute.  When I had to reach into his mouth to pull out a snail he decided to taste (he must love Paris like his mama - escargot!), he isn't so cute.  Well, sorta.

"Mama, I wuv you...and I am going to go grab the cord to the lamp and pull on it to see what happens...sound good?"...TIMBER!

Dawber's Brother from the same Mother

We are so EXCITED that Dawb's bro (yes, his actual brother) is now in the Duv!  YES!  Our dear friends who were also in the market for a pup, came home with Dawber's sweet brother.  Welcome to the Duv, BARLEY !!!  I cried!!!

Things DD now knows...

1. Bark tastes better than snails.
2. Jumping off the deck and into the flower bed is way easier than using the stairs.
3. German shepherds rule, boxers drool.
4. Likes: his crate, any game of fetch, playing chase, naps on a cool surface, the taste of most peoples face, chewing anything that is beautiful, pooping 3 times a day, and making small talk at about 2 am, lollying in the grass, anything new( which is a lot).
5. Dislikes: collars, play toys without fuzz on them, and Satan.
